Pirelli Star Driver Daniel McKenna has taken the lead of the Pirelli-supported MSA British Rally Championship after a battling drive to victory on last weekend’s Scottish Rally.
The Pirelli-equipped Irishman and co-driver Arthur Kierans also scored top points in the Citroen Racing Trophy after overcoming the faltering rival Citroen DS3 of Osian Pryce and Dale Furniss. McKenna had led after the short opening stage before being overhauled by Pryce. But he kept his title rival in sight and was able to retake the lead before Pryce retired with a gearbox problem on stage nine. McKenna finished with a lead of over two minutes from the DS3 of Callum Black and Paul Wakeley.
“I have to say that was a tough victory,” said McKenna at the conclusion of 10 dusty stages. “Osian kept us on our toes all day and we were playing catch-up most of the morning. The car was faultless and I have to thank the DGM team and Pirelli for all their hard work this weekend. It’s given us a great confidence boost going into the Ulster Rally and the stages there are a lot more familiar, so I’m looking forward to it.”
The Ulster Rally, round four of the BRC, takes place on August 15/16.
