Daniel McKenna is in the final stages of preparing for his final outing of 2014, Wales Rally GB. The event is the final round of the World Rally Championship and Daniel gained entry to the rally after winning the British Rally Championship in September.
Competing on the world stage is very important to Daniel as he highlighted earlier, “It’s means a lot to me to be back on a world championship event after a year away. I’ve gained a lot of experience and mileage in the last 12 months as Pirelli Star Driver, be that tyre development or direct competition and I’ve grown to really enjoy driving the Davy Greer Motorsport Citroen DS3 R3T. That’s really important as I aim to keep with Citroen for 2015.”
Daniel’s plans for 2015 aren’t finalised yet but a lot of work is going on behind the scenes and the ultimate goal is tackle the 2015 Junior World Rally Championship (JWRC). “I’m determined to progress in the sport and I see the JWRC as the next logical step for me. I’m working hard to secure the necessary backing but focusing on the present, my goal in Wales is to try and get up to the pace of the current Junior World Rally Championship regulars. It’ll be a stern task but that’s the level that I’m aspiring to and it’s where I need to prove myself.”
There’s also another reason why Daniel wants to give a strong performance on Wales Rally GB. As Daniel alludes; “Wales will more than likely be my final rally with Arthur Kierans for a while as my former co-driver Andrew Grennan plans to partner me for the 2015 season. Arthur has been a fantastic co-driver these past few seasons and has brought so much to the team so I’d love to pull out a good performance in Wales for him.”
Wales Rally GB starts in earnest on Friday the 14th of November before finishing on Sunday the 16th with 23 famously tough stages on the gravel roads of the Welsh woods.
